Portriat timeless 2011
PORTRAIT: TIMELESS- This was the first project of the term and I was beginning film photography and still trying to get used to my camera, during the beginning I had issues such as having blurred images or the film not developing and having to take the same photo again.
For the portrait series I started to take photos of family members, my theme was “Timeless” to avoid modern technology and appliances and dress my models in old fashion clothing to make the image look like it has been taken decades ago.

Flower girl
My younger sister is often used as a model throughout my series, in “Flower girl” holding various props and holding different poses so I can have more options to choose between. In this photo she is sitting on the grass in an elegant white dress, experimenting between tonal contrasts. The smooth fluid silhouette of the dress against the coarse textures of the grass and the tonal patterns of the brick wall allows the photo to have interest in textures. this image echoes solid authentic feel of the classic old portraits
Umbrella Girl
In the “Umbrella girl” photo I’ve used Krystal again as my muse, this time she is in black and holding creating a severe contrast from white and pure to black and mysterious.
Here she is on the front veranda dressed in a black dress and hat holding a sun umbrella, as the photos are taken in black and white I have to be aware of the tones and cautious of how the photo will come out. The photo creates an old fashion image and the viewers would not know the time the photo was taken.

Swanlake
In the “Swan lake” image I have my cousin Gabriella in one of her dancers outfit on top of the stone castle at Oatley Park. Her ballet costume and her frozen pose makes the image clear that she is a dancer, to express her performing side I shot the photo in at a sophisticated ageless environment. The warm muted canopy of trees create a feeling of enchantment, the natural light sources and the earthy textures help create a graceful classical environment for a natural non airbrushed look.
Swag man
In the “Swag man” photo I have my dad dressed up as a miner on top of a pile of dirt on my yard, my father is a construction worker and he had several of tools to use. The old slouch hat and the pick axe creates an image of a miner in the gold rush age, I had to crop out the neighbours car from the photo to avoid modernism.
Studio: Masquerade
For the studio shot my first roll of film didn’t develop and it was my first time shooting at the studio so I had to start over. The images are slightly blurred and bleached out because I was rushing to get the photos printed on time; here I have one of my classmates as a model with various props such as different mask and an umbrella trying to create a soft mysterious atmosphere.
